I just had to post this. I took a walk in Amsterdam. Happened past a small coffee shop. Saw this statue of a heron ‘guarding’ the place. This is not an uncommon in Holland as various species guard an establishment. Many are cast figurines, especially for the ‘guard’ dogs. So I thought this a creative use of guard talent. Well, as I walked past this fella, or fellaette, seemed to be watching me. He (or she) Was!! This lovely bird flew onto the front table to have an espresso. The wildlife in Holland is remarkable. The farms are picturesque. All the fields are laid out perfectly, bordered by canals, many times dotted with cattle, sheep and horses. The canals are filled with water fowl happy to be with people. I actually passed a drake Mallard duck fast asleep on margin of the bike path, plopped on his belly, head under his wing, fast asleep. Ah Holland. Just too much to write about so I wont’ attempt.
And in a few weeks I will be fishing remote rivers and lakes in Alaska with Nicole, my daughter.
Life is good.
